Today we drove to the starting point of Hyuana Potosi, had lunch there, and then began our hike to our first and only hut. The hike was originally supposed to be three to four hours long but it ended up only being like an hour and a half because the hut we wanted to stay in was full, so we had to stay in one that was closer. This just meant that our summit day (the next morning) would be a little harder. The hike was short but very steep; we had to do switchbacks up a very steep cliff. They had us put our helmets on just in case rocks started falling.

The porters (the people who carry the heavy gear up) would go up this cliff in jeans and the women would go up in their traditional dresses!

We thought we were working hard until we saw the porters doing laps on this cliff!

The hut had two rooms, one for eating and the other for sleeping. There were tons of skinny bunk beds piled into the room in order to fit all the climbers. We ate dinner really early that night and I was feeling pretty good. Then we went to bed at like 8pm and were all a little nervous for our alpine start the next morning.
