Today we were planning on leaving at 11am, so we slept in again. Then we woke up and packed up our things. We said goodbye to Don and then we left to go to the base camp of Illimani. The drive took 3 hours and we stopped for lunch along the way. The very last hour of driving was on a very skinny road with a cliff directly to the right. We got to base camp and set up our tents, then relaxed for a few hours before dinner. At dinner, Alejo, our head guide, told us that the weather for our summit day (Sunday) was looking really bad, and it would be better the next day (Monday). So, we should stay at base camp another night, then climb to high camp a day late and wake up at midnight that night to summit. But that meant that we would have to go all the way down to base camp the same day that we summitted. Then we would have to drive back to La Paz, have dinner, and sleep for a few hours, and then leave at midnight again to catch our flights home. But Monday is the best day for weather, so it’s just going to be a busy 24 hours. The temperature itself was the same both days, but the winds expected to be a lot worse on Sunday. After dinner, we went to bed.
