Today we drove from Copacabana to our first camp. On the way, we stopped at a store where they made boats which was really cool. The boats were made of a type of grass that grew right behind their shop. They showed us pictures of some of their boats on expeditions that had crossed oceans. Then we walked down to the water and saw one of the boats being made. After that we continued driving and Rosemary taught us an ancient way of getting rid of headaches or fevers. She took Coco leaves sprayed them with a mixture of alcohol and water and then stuck them onto our faces in specific places.

She told us that she would do this to her kids when they weren't feeling well. Once we got to the camp, we said goodbye to Rosemary and she took the van back to her house. Then we set up our tents and relaxed for an hour before our second hike. The hike was intentionally pretty hard so that we could get our blood pumping (which help us acclimatize). We went to 15,662 ft (which is higher than all of continental U.S.!) from 14,390 ft.

I had a pretty bad headache and was really out of breath, but so was everyone else. Other than that, I felt pretty good. We hiked for an hour up an extremely steep hill and then went down. After that we had dinner and then went to sleep.

You are too cute with the leaves on your head!
