Today we are going to leave to climb Iliniza Norte for two days. First we go to base camp and then tomorrow we summit. We had a late start because the hike isn’t that long. So we left at 11am, then ate lunch and drove to the trailhead for the hike.

We hiked for about three hours and then got to the refuge that we would stay at for the night. It was very small and it was one big bunk bed with a bunch of different mattresses.

We would stay for the night there and then wake up early in the morning to start our climb to the summit. There were around 12 other people staying in the refuge with us. One of the people’s name is Carl and he is from Switzerland but lives in Ecuador and he has a lot of speed ascents on huge mountains like Denali and Aconcagua. Most of the climbers were doing Iliniza Sur so they would wake up a lot earlier than us because it’s a really technical mountain. We had dinner that night and went to bed early to try and get sleep before waking up early the next morning.
