I arrived in Quito Ecuador last night for a trip with my dad to learn technical mountaineering skills.

We are doing this trip to learn all of the technical skills that we need for Denali which we are climbing in early June. We are going to stay in Quito for a few days before we leave to climb Illiniza Norte and Antisana. We have two guides, Edgar and Franklin, who are both from Ecuador. Today we did a gear check with Franklin and then left to do a short acclimatization hike.

Quito’s elevation is already 9,350 ft so it is relatively easy to get up to higher elevations. My Dad, Franklin, and I took a gondola up higher and then did a short 40-minute hike. We got up to around 12,000 ft.

After that, we went to lunch and then a museum at the equator. For the rest of the day, we relaxed and then went to dinner.

(this is what happens when my dad tells the waiter to pick her favorite thing on the menu)
