Today we went up to the glacier on Antisana to practice our glacier skills. First, we practiced just walking around with crampons on. Then we practiced creating the ice systems that we learned the day before. We used ice screws, carabiners, and slings to make systems for different types of situations. Then we learned how to do some ice climbing which was super fun! I really liked ice climbing. We learned different techniques and practiced going up steep walls. At the end, we put all of our skills together. Dad and I had a competition where we had to see who could create an ice system and then use their system to belay themselves down an ice wall the fastest without help. I won. It was a lot of fun, and by the time we headed back to camp, the sun was going down making a beautiful sunset.
